NCC GOLF SOCIETY

2012 "HIDDEN GEMS" TOUR

DATES: Friday 27th July to Sunday 29th July

COURSES: Friday: Enville GC, Nr Stourbridge, West Midlands, DY7 5BN – 1st Tee at Noon

The Highgate and Lodge courses have nine holes of majestic woodland and nine holes of picturesque heathland and are frequently used to host P.G.A. E.G.U. and County events. They have hosted the Midland Regional qualifying round of The Open from 2007 to 2011. The club now has two eighteen hole courses; Highgate, with a standard scratch of 73 and the Lodge, with 71. Both Courses test the golfer to the limit and Enville is a venue for many top professional and amateur tournaments. The large membership with a considerable waiting list and numerous Society visitors indicates that the club is one of the most popular in the West Midlands.

Golfshake Ranking: 37 out of 1444 and selected by Golf Monthly in its Top 200 UK Course listing

Sat & Sun: Astbury Hall GC, Nr Bridgnorth, Shropshire, WV16 6AT – 1st Tee at 1.00pm latest.

Sitting on 350 acres of traditional English country side in the heart of Shropshire, Astbury Hall has a distinctive story behind its development as the brain child of K.K. Downing, lead guitarist of Grammy award-winning heavy metal band, Judas Priest. The 18 hole golf course opened to the public on September 15 2010, completing K.K. Downing’s first course design. Combining natural features, tactically placed bunkers and beautifully manicured playing surfaces subtly contoured to USGA standards, the course measures over 6500 yards and promises to be a test to golfers of all abilities.

THE BASE: Bewdley – "The most perfect small Georgian Town in Worcestershire" nestling by the banks of the River Severn and on the edge of the Wyre Forest. (2 high quality Curry houses and a good choice of other eateries).

HOTELS: George Hotel, Load Street, Bewdley, DY12 2AW – Wetherspoons ***** (16 beds booked)

I agree with the other reviewers - this is a very clean and comfortable hotel. Its location is ideal in the centre of Bewdley a minute or so walk from the River Severn and several good riverside pubs and restaurants. Rated 5 out of 5 – Great Value for money

The Mug House Inn, Severnside North, Bewdley DY12 2EE – AA**** (8 beds booked)

The accommodation, full of character, was comfortable and our room had glorious views overlooking the river. The restaurant meals were well received and were cooked with fine produce. All the staff from the Bar to the Restaurant were exceptionally friendly and welcoming. Rated 5 out of 5.
